About Doyle Brown for NC Senate 48

Hi, I'm Doyle

MY BACKGROUND

I’m the father of two beautiful girls who attend Rutherford County Public Schools. I’m the first person in my family to graduate from college. I went to Delaware State University, earning my Bachelor’s in Accounting and by MBA. I’m a proud member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. I’m small business owner working in affordable housing and other real estate and business ventures. I believe that anyone in America can become anything they wish to be, so long as they are willing to put in the work.

A NORTH CAROLINA FOR EVERYONE

We need to get money out of politics. We need to elect leaders who put the interests of the average working people ahead of the interests of Wall Street. My promise to you is simple – Your Street Not Wall Street

My Platform

These Issues Highlight How Wall Street Controls Your Street – and how I’m going to change that!

Voter Rights / Gerrymandering
“Every citizen should have the right to vote. Voting is what makes America Great. Impeding that right by removing early voting days, adding restrictions never dreamt of by the Founding Fathers is wholly UN-AMERICAN. Extreme Partisan Gerrymandering should be outlawed. Career Politicians should never be allowed to choose their voters, and Wall Street should NEVER be allowed to choose their politicians.”

Education

“Education is the engine of our economy. All children should be educated for 21st century challenges, whether they attend a public school, private school or charter school. We should diligently work towards getting rid of waste and abuse in education, and focus our efforts towards excellence, not slogans.”

Wages

“If you work hard, you should make enough to live comfortably. Ask the question- North Carolina hasn’t raised the minimum wage since 2009. Have costs stayed the same since then? Wall Street has a vested interest in keeping your pay low, regardless of how hard you work or how many hours you work. I propose raising the minimum wage in North Carolina to $17.76. Corporations are making record profits off our hard work. It’s time to put some of that profit YOU made back in YOUR pocket.”

Healthcare

Healthcare should be affordable for anyone who works. The large corporate insurance companies have carved up our state to ensure they make maximum profits by denying you your right to care. In most parts of the state, you have no choice in your insurance – it’s either provided by your employer, if you’re lucky; by the ACA, if you can afford it; or by the state if you’re the working poor or disabled. In a nation that prides itself on competitive business practices, this is counter to our patriotic values. You have 100 choices for car or home insurance but not for your healthcare. IF these corporate insurers do not want to compete for our dollars, I propose to set up a system to link our university hospitals, our county hospitals and clinics to provide services to all with a state run insurance program that will be funded by a non-compliance tax on insurance companies as well as premiums from the insured themselves. My hope is that this will create a competitive spirit in corporate insurers to make a state-run insurance plan obsolete. That’s the American Way.

Infrastructure

Good infrastructure is the lifeline of our economy. Our roads, bridges, waterways, electrical grid, internet and ports must be ready for the needs of a 21st century economy. Using advanced materials and cutting-edge engineering we can create more resilient roads, bridges and an electrical grid that will better survive weather-related issues.

Woman’s Rights

Women should get equal pay for equal work. In the 21st century, there is no reason for a woman to make 82% of what a man makes. This makes everything from having a family to simply enjoying their God-given right to happiness more difficult. If we want to strengthen our families and our communities, this is an absolute priority.

Gun Rights

Our 2nd Amendment rights are guaranteed by our Constitution. FULL STOP. People are allowed to have guns for hunting, for personal protection, for sport shooting, or just if they want to enjoy the craftsmanship of a fine weapon. However, we don’t allow people in jail to have guns and no one believes criminals or terrorists should be allowed to own guns. There are sensible limits to all of our rights, from free speech to what the federal government can dictate what the state’s rights are. If you believe terrorists should be allowed to come to our country and buy unlimited guns to kill our citizens with – vote for the other guy.

Protect Our Children

Childhood should be a time of wonder and growth, not fear. We need to Increase “No Gun Zone” buffers around schools – if you feel it necessary to go to a kindergarten armed, join law enforcement. Otherwise, leave your guns at home. We also need to increase the penalties for drug dealers who target our children as well as those penalties that target our children for sex trafficking. One way to further protect our children from these vile sex traffickers is to force internet companies to monitor online predators better. Another way to stop these traffickers is to add more electronic signs (VMS – variable message signs) for more effective AMBER alerts, not just on interstates but also major secondary highways. If we close our eyes to the dangers facing our children, they will be victims of unimaginable sorrows.

Increase Targeted Business Tax Incentives

We want to be good partners with businesses and corporations who want to relocate to our great state. I’m not against big business; rather I’m against practices that allow businesses to extract our wealth from our citizens. Too often businesses come into our communities for the generous tax breaks we offer without providing the corresponding hiring of our citizens. If we give incentives without the corresponding benefits, these companies should have to give back our tax money with interest. That just make common sense.

Protecting our Environment

We need to invest in 21st solutions that will protect and provide clean water to all our citizens, which means increasing low or no cost testing for wells, as well as increase incentives for reducing pesticide usage on farms, eliminating PFAS from industrial usage, and to Increase the usage of Super Soil and EST in livestock production, a technology that was developed right here in North Carolina.

Support Our Cause
